BIO

 

Tico Alvarez is a world renowned piano player and composer who leads his band, Mambo Drama.  Mambo Drama is a new and exciting band providing a variety of exciting Cuban rhythms, such as Cha Cha, Mambo, Guaguanco, Bolero and a very aggressive blend of Latin Jazz. Please listen and enjoy this wonderful music. 

Jorge Alvarez (Tico), born in Havana Cuba, at an early age began his interest in music, especially the piano guided by the hand of his father, the great musician and composer Tico Alvarez.

 

His early studies of music were taught by the renowned piano teacher Josefina Bousa. At the age of 11 he entered the ENIA (National Institute for Art Instructors) in Havana Cuba.

 

Tico was influenced by his teacher the master pianist Ruben Gonzales pianist for the orchestra of Master Musician, and Jorrin who was also the Pianist for the Buena Vista Social Club. Tico was an excellent student with the famous artist Silvio Rodriguez Cardenas, lecturer who is responsible for perfecting his techniques in the piano. 

 

Tico, at a very young age also competed at several international presentations for top music critics. Also sharing stages with Spanish singers such as Carmen Flores in 1990 at the International Festival Latin American in Barcelona. In the same year moved to Turkey to participate in the Latin Jazz Festival in Istanbul where he performed with the renowned Chucho Valdes and Chick Corea.

 

In 1997, Tico decided to move to Miami Florida where he continues his career as a Conductor of Music in Radio and TV. In 2003 he started his own show (Roots of Cuban Music) on the TV station Marti by the guidance of Tico directed by Tomas Regalado, Jr. In 2004, for the interest of the company they integrated into the program the distinguished Conductor and Director Marcos Miranda in the fantastic program (El Cuadro de Marcos). On all occasions, Tico was in charge of accompanying all of the performers that would appear in the show. 

 

In 2009, he began working at Broadcasting Systems, Inc. at the radio station of Mr. Raul Alarcon as a producer of programming El Vacilon de la Manana por el Zol 95.7 FM in Miami, Florida by companies SBS. He also had his own radio space in the station 670 AM which he also named Roots of Cuban Music. This show was aimed to educate and inform the Cuban culture and Afro Cuban roots. During his career he had the great fortune of meeting the talented Conductor, Producer and Singer Myrlen Sorrell who he now shares his life with. These two talented artists have joined forces together to bring a new blend of music to an International audience. 

 

In 2010, Tico moved to Los Angeles, CA to participate in a new project as a Producer for SBS. He started to make musical appearances at different venues and clubs which had great acceptance. After their contract was over, the company decided to move back to Miami, Florida where he and his wife continue to entertain and bring back to Miami their blend of music. 

 

In 2012, he joined renowned Conductor of radio and television, Miosotiz Parapar to conduct many radio programs on Radio 1020 AM which has the largest public rating and recognition of Latin audience, also participates as Executive Producer on the television network Mega TV (Todo Devate) of the famous journalist and Conductor of radio and television Nelson Rubio.

 

He is currently with his Producer and Manager, Mr. Marcel Castaneda under the direction of MPC & Associates and with the record company Music Roots Records. They are releasing to the market the new production of the album Baila Mi Ritmo with his band Tico's Mambo Drama with the collaboration of professional and excellent musicians, he has been able to deliver a blend of Tropical, Afro Cuban, and Latin Jazz for an exciting and energized new music. I want to thank Global Golden Media Corp. and MPC & Associates for diligently working and collaborating this fabulous project of the success of Tico's Mambo Drama.
